How do I get from Manhattan to Port Jefferson Train Station (Long Island)?
Really, it’s quite simple. Buy a Long Island Rail Road ticket from a ticket window or ticket machine to Port Jefferson. If your train leaves Penn Station between 4 PM and 8 PM on a weekday, get a “peak” ticket. At all other times, get an “off-peak” ticket. From there, look at the big electronic board and see which track the train to Port Jefferson (or train with connections to Port Jefferson) is on. Port Jefferson will be indicated in light blue. Then, find the track, and board the train. If it’s a direct train to Port Jefferson, just stay on it until the end. If it’s a train with a connection to Port Jefferson, then get off at Jamaica station (see EDIT, it’s Huntington and not Jamaica) and get on the connecting train. MTA staff will tell you which track the train will be on; they usually set it up so that connecting trains are on the same platform. Again, if you’re not sure, ask. Once on the connecting train, stay on it until the end. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
