Please bear in mind, however, that there is likely to be a charge for this service, unlike a saleroom valuation for auction purposes which is made free by auctioneers in the hope that goods valued will be consigned for sale. If you take this course of action, you should try to give the valuer as much information about the piece as possible: a sketch or photograph of the mark; an idea of the provenance of the piece – where, when and how you acquired it etc and price paid if possible. All these things will have a bearing on likely value.
