How do I format a Dell Latitude C Drive with Windows XP?
You can not format the C drive from within Windows. Since the format program would be running from the C drive, it can not delete itself and still keep running. (Hopefully that makes sense.) You have to format the C drive from outside of Windows. If you boot from your XP CD and let it begin the Windows install, you will have an option to format the drive right after you press the F8 to agree to the license. If your computer is booting from the CD, try turning it on and pressing the F12 to get to a boot menu where you can select which device to boot from and choose the CD drive. Or use the F2 to go into the BIOS set up and move the CD drive to the top of the Boot Order. If your CD is not getting that far, you will want to get another CD before you format the drive.
