It might have been dropped or knocked and the lens might be misaligned. Try putting a gentle side to side turning torque on the lens as you switch the camera on and off – pull it outward first. Also if the battery is not delivering full current it might not be able to operate the lens, but that is unlikely on near new camera. The last thing that you can try is to remove the battery for a day or two with the camera left on and then re-insert the battery. That is like re-booting a computer. If it works you will have to re-enter all your settings.
