How do I find out if California will suspend the license of a Deadbeat Dad?
It’s been awhile since I had to deal with this, but I believe that any state’s Title IV-D agency has the authority to suspend the license of a resident, non-custodial parent with an arrearage of $5000.00 or more. They can also suspend passports, place leins on assets, and place income deduction orders. Under Title IV-D, the agency collects a small fee (used to be $25) from the custodial parent receiving support, and handles all aspects of enforcement and collection from then on. Since these are state agencies, the first place to contact for up-to-date information would be the California Department of Child Support Services. http://www.childsup.cahwnet.gov/ If the custodial parent resides in a different state, they should contact their home state’s Child Support Agency first. The home state agency will then make the arrangements with the other state for enforcement and collection.
