How Do I Find Out How Much RAM My Computer Has?
RAM, or Random Access Memory, is the temporary memory device that your computer uses to read and write data that will be accessed by the central processing unit, or CPU. RAM is the device people are most commonly referring to when they ask about how much memory a computer has. The more RAM a computer has, the less work your CPU has to do to get data from your computer’s hard disk. RAM is volatile memory. This means that the data stored on the RAM remains only as long as your computer is in operation. When your turn off your computer, the data is lost. It is simple to find out how much RAM is in a computer using the Windows XP operating system. Step 1 Right-click the “Start” Menu and select “Control Panel.” Step 2 Double-click the “System” icon. Step 3 Look at the lower right side of the “General” tab of the “System Properties” window. You will see a listing showing the manufacturer, model and speed of the CPU. It also displays the amount of RAM in the computer.
