How do I find an agent to get work for an American actress/model in Japan?
While getting an agent in another country is possible by walking in and interviewing, you will save a lot of time and money by arranging to be represented by a Japanese agent, through an affiliated U.S. modeling agency. Japanese agents almost always choose the U.S. models they want by using scouts. Beware of independent “scouts”, who claim to represent a number of agencies in several cities/countries. I was the victim of such a scout, when a guy named Jake came through, interviewing for prospective models to go to Japan. He invited me to go, so I got my passport, quit my job, and prepared to go. I never heard back from him or the agency he promised would represent me in Japan. Legitimate scouts are usually employees of the Japanese agencies, looking for a working vacation in the U.S. They get to see the sights, while arranging for gaijene (foreign) models to bring back with them. They arrange interviews with the best known agents in each town, and see dozens, if not hundreds of people
