Check the packaging that your pencil came in for refill instructions if the pencil is new. Mechanical pencils can be refilled a few different ways so if you have no idea how to refill your mechanical pencil, then you will have to try a few different ways until you find the correct method. Purchase the right size lead, which should be printed on the pencil. Try removing the eraser and placing a few pieces of lead in the end of the pencil before replacing the eraser. Try unscrewing the tip of the pencil and placing pieces of lead in the pencil. Try winding the lead into the pencil by placing the lead at the opening of the pencil, pushing it in lightly, while winding the eraser end of the pencil for pencils with lead that is 1 mm or larger. Try compressing the eraser end or the pump mechanism on the side of the pencil near the tip and pushing the lead in the tip of the pencil.
