How do I file a complaint against a hospital for unnecessary cruelty to a patient?
As a nurse, I apologize for the way that you were treated and felt with your experience. Every hospital is different in the way that you would file a complaint. I would call the hospital switchboard, and ask to speak to the Administration. They could probably direct you better to where you need to go to file the complaint. Before you go for anymore testing, or your friend, make sure you are well-informed about what the procedure entails, and what the hospital’s policies are regarding your interests. Make sure you do this research so that you aren’t in that situation again. You can call ANY hospital, and ask them prior to going. This is your right as a patient. Also, make the doctor accountable, because he can pull a lot of strings if he knows your requests ahead of time.
Neither of those procedures require an analgesic. For the colonoscopy she was not under any form of anesthesia, the sedative was probably because she caused a scene in the waiting room. It is NOT anesthesia. If you are at a hospital you can’t expect to get pain meds at every step of the way. 1. because it is way too expensive, and they wouldn’t get paid for that. 2. Because of the potential that the patients are just trying to score drugs. 3. Because the pain meds could have given the wrong diagnosis with the colonoscopy. I would suggest you don’t give the already battered down medical system too many more problems.
Go to the hospital and look on the walls. There will be information on the walls about who to call for complaints. To refuse someone lidocain is rediculous. I have asked for it many times, in fact INFORMED them I need it and it is never refused. Regarding the pain medication instead of the sedative, I am not sure what standard protocol is. A sedative worked fine with me. I do remember one quick ouch and then I was out again.
Monday’s through Friday’s at hospitals they have an admission desk. You should go in person and ask to speak with someone about making a complaint on a recent visit. They will then appoint you to a hospital social worker whom will take the complaint and see that it is dealt with in the correct manner. Hope this helps and your friend get’s to feeling better!
During those procedures they do not use pain medication, only sedative medications or anestesia, most people can handle it (there is little risk of complication), unless you want to pay more. If you really want to file a report you can go back and ask to speak with someone in charge or write to a president etc.
