How do I extend the life of my Getrag 360?
The Getrag 360 manual transmission requires a good 5W30 mineral oil or a 5W30 Synthetic. The manual states that the Getrags reccomended oil capacity is 3.5 quarts. Many owners have found that with the 3.5 quarts, the main bearing does not get enough oil. To cure this problem, the owner can overfill the transmission by 1 – 2 quarts. For overfilling, my suggestion is to fill the recommended 3.5 quarts through the fill plug.(This can be found on the passenger side of the transmission right behind the PTO cover). After filling the transmisison with the 3.5 quarts, you then need to overfill the transmission 1-2 quarts. You can overfill the transmission through the shifter inside the cab,one of the upper PTO bolts, or plumb a hose from the fill plug up to the engine compartment.To add the extra quart of fluid through the top, just remove the shifter.
