How do I explain Group B Strep to relatives and friends?
I would tell them exactly what Group B Strep is. Let them know that it is a bacteria normally produced by the vagina, not by sex. If someone acts smug or rudely towards you, let them know that every single pregnant woman in the country gets tested for this, not just you. So if it was an STD or germ problem, then the whole country’s woman population would either be unclean or hussies, which isn’t so. There was nothing you did to cause this so you shouldn’t feel inclined to explain your labor and bodily functions to anyone. Enjoy this time with your baby and take comfort in knowing that a lot of pregnant women have gone through the same thing you did and be thankful that your baby is ok. Don’t give those who accuse you of things the time of day!
