How do I enhance my high ceilings without making the room look smaller?
Paint the walls a noticably different color than the ceilings. Also, since you have high ceilings, you could easily add some crown moulding for added elegance. Other than that, put things with height in them in the room. Get a floor lamp, but look for one that is a bit taller than all the others. Get a tall tree and put it in the corner. Put up a screen. Layering heights will make the tall things noticable, but not look oddly out of place. That means put something really tall next to something moderately tall next to sometime somewhat tall, all behind a chair (it is very important to anchor it to the floor with a chair or something similar).
