Check your Windows version. If you have Windows XP, DirectX 8.1 is already installed; if you have a later version of Windows, you have a more up-to-date DirectX version. Downgrading DirectX is almost always unnecessary, but if you want to, first uninstall DX by downloading and running the DirectX Eradicator (see Resources).Go to Microsoft’s official website (see Resources) and download the DirectX8.1 installer.
