There is one major genealogy program on the Internet that sounds like what you need. It is PAF. The Mormons let you download it for free. It doesn’t do the work for you. It is to family trees what “Word” is to writing a novel. It is a tool. Ancestry lets you build a tree for free but your data stays on their server, not in your machine. Ancestry or HeritageQuest will sell you access to data for a fee. There is a distinction between data and programs to some people. There is a distinction between a planet and a star, too, to space-farers, and between concrete and cement to contractors. The rest of this is about free data.
