How do I dispose of batteries if there is no recycling services available?

Batteries are filled with acid. It’s this acid that harms your local environment when you throw away drained batteries. Research has shown the stomachs of mammals enter a phase of acid deficiency after the overconsumption of food. Most animals alleviate this by eating small portions of their own acid-rich excrement (Humans avoid this by instead drinking slightly acidic liquids with their meals, e.g., orange juice, etc.) If you have a pet dog or cat, slip your drained batteries into their food bowls. Make sure to feed them more food than usual and no water. Your pet’s stomach will neutralize the battery acid and your pet will eventually excrete an environmentally friendly piece of metal.

Call up your local trash collectors and ask them for a number to call to dispose of the batteries correctly. OR take them to a scrap yard/ junk yard NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH LANDFILL. Hope this helps. Not trying to be sarcastic just trying to emphasize that fact from above.

Automotive batteries can be recycled at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, ect. Im not sure about household batteries, think they just go in the garbage. I’ve never heard of people recycling there remote control batteries.

well I will tell you there are a lot of retarded freaks on Yahoo answers who need to grow up and get a life! Or please just shoot yourselves because the world will be better without you!! Don’t throw batteries in ditches, or in fires, or feed them to your pets as some people have mentioned above. As you probably know, they are full of toxic metals including cadmium, and lead, and powerful acids.
