Workbench fully supports file-based metadata deployments with complete control over deploy options. To prepare to deploy, create a deployment ZIP file (see: http://www.salesforce.com/us/developer/docs/api_meta/Content/file_based.htm#using_deploy_retrieve). It may be easier to create the ZIP file using the Retrieve function (usually from the source organization). To stage for deployment, choose the prepared ZIP file along with any applicable deployment options on the Deploy page in Workbench. Note, if you get a “No package.xml found” error and you do in fact have a package.xml in the deployment ZIP, try toggling the “Single Package” option.
