If you have an old Hotmail or Windows Live account you never use, or if you are just receiving too much spam mail, you can delete your account. You can back up your contacts and important information by saving a list in a word processing program first. After that, you can continue to permanently delete your Hotmail or Windows Live account and start a new one or move to a different email service. Open the Windows Live website in your Internet browser. Sign in to your account with your Windows Live or Hotmail ID. Click your name in the top, right corner of the browser and select “View your account.” Click “Close account” under “Additional Options.” Read over the “When your account is closed” section on the page that opens. This tells you that you will lose your contacts and everything having to do with your account will be permanently deleted.
