When a level of comfort has been achieved, measure and mark the size and length of the cut you wish to make on the tile. Set the tile on the ceramic-tile cutter and line up the scoring wheel with the mark you wish to cut. Push the handle of the scoring wheel down, applying an even amount of pressure, to score the tile. Remove the scored tile from the tile cutter and place it on the cutting shoe, or a flat-edged surface, so that the scored area hangs over the lip.
