You are going to have to go to the doctor and get antibiotic to clear it up, but in the mean time try gargling with salt water and take some pain relievers ie: tylenol or ibuprofen. As for what causes it my husband was told by our doctor that the minute you start feeling like your throat is a little sore or irritated to take allergy medication ie: benedryl. My husband used to get tonsillitis every year and since the doctor told him this he hasn’t had tonsillitis since and that was five years ago. Doctors won’t usually tell these little secrets because then there wouldn’t be so many people that need to go to the doctor and they would lose money. But we actually have an ethical doctor who knows it isn’t right to make people suffer in order to make money.
