How do I cure my maple tree, white spots on maple tree and thorns on leaves?
The ‘thorns’ on the leaves are probably galls. They are harmless although they don’t look very good. There is no reason to treat them and nothing will kill the insects that make them anyway. The white spots on the other hand could be several things. They could be mealybugs, scales or something else. I would have an Arborist out to look at the tree. They may not be able to do anything this year, but next year they can treat the tree at the appropriate time to ensure the pests get properly treated. You must also realize that treatment does NOT mean all the pests will be eradicated. You can never ‘cure’ an infestation. And if the infestation is too heavy, it may be better to remove the tree. Make sure the Arborist you hire is not just a tree cutter, but can identify and treat diseases. IF the tree needs to come down, make sure they are insured.
