Quickbooks Premier Manufacturing and Wholesale – 2010 While the Bill of Materials function for an Inventory Assembly is good for costing an assembly, it is ABSOLUTELY USELESS for actually building an assembly. There are no user defined fields available within the assembly as there are within an item… Since an Inventory Item may be used on more than on Inventory Assemebly you cannot make notes pertaining to an assembly as they would appear on all assemblies where the item is used. An Inventory Item may be part of several Inventory Assemblies. In the electronics industry, it is standard to assign unique reference designators to each ITEM within an Assembly so the assembler knows where to place those items. In addition, the same ITEM may be used more than once with an Assembly.
