If you wish to convert dvi files into pdf files use the command dvi2pdf contained in the ghostscript-6 package. Read the man page by running man dvi2pdf on the command line. You can also create pdf versions of your original source TeX (respectively LaTeX) documents by running pdftex (respectively, pdflatex). Note that encapsulated postscript files can not be included into a pdf file. The have to be converted to a pdf version by using the program epstopdf. The command epstopdf myfile.eps results in the creation of the file myfile.pdf.
