How do I create a Learning Agreement for an ITU placement?
You will need to create a Learning Agreement with your Assigned Educational Supervisor for your ITU placement. The Learning Agreement is trainee led and you are required to arrange appraisal meetings, complete the Learning Agreement form online and sign it off, ensuring it is completed by the end of each placement. There are quite a number of areas in the syllabus which can be covered during an ITU attachment. There is a considerable amount of the Core Clinical Skills part of the syllabus which would be ideally covered in an ICU attachment and this area is common to all surgical specialties. These areas include “Peri-operative care”; “Assessment of multiple injuries”, “Bleeding diathesis”, “Venous thrombosis and embolism”, “Nutrition”, “Endocrine and metabolic disorders”. When you set your objectives with your AES for this placement, these would be useful areas to cover during a critical care post. You need to go into the “Topics Chooser” in the “Objective Setting” page of the Learning
