How do I convert a recessed box light fixture to a ceiling fan fixture?

Chances are your original light only has a two conductor (with ground) wire going to it. This means when you install the fan, if it has a light kit, the lights and fan will go on and off together. You can’t switch them separately unless you replace the wire with a three conductor (with ground) wire. This is very tricky to do in an existing house and I wouldn’t recommend it.
