The Symbolic name field is used for more convenient storage of the identifiers of information block elements and section. For example: in www.myserver.com/catalog/mobile/nokia_3310/, ‘mobile’ is a symbolic name of the Mobiles group, and ‘nokia_3310’ is a symbolic name of an element in this group. When adding a new info block element, you can ensure the symbolic name is unique using the creation form handler (see http://www.bitrixsoft.com/help/source/iblock/help/ru/developer/custom.php.html).
