How do I configure NetVision NPM to collect information from an intelligent network device such as a router or switch?
There are three principle configuration files used by NetVision NPM. This first file is the vendor’s Management Information Base (MIB) file that defines what information can be accessed within an intelligent device. This file maps SNMP objects into easily readable names. Object names from this file is then used to create graph definition files. These files contain the information necessary to draw the graphical charts created by the application. In this file, an administrator specifies the SNMP objects to be associated with a specific graphic ID. The third file, whose information can also be included in the graph definition file, defines the hostname and other information used by NetVision NPM to talk to the polled devices.
