You don’t have to wipe out your hard drive to install windows xp 2000. Just uninstall what ever you have currently(windows 98 etc.), and then install windows xp. ( click control panel – click add remove programs – click remove (whatever your current windows program) – install xp disk and follow prompts). Some computers (older ones) will not accept xp. Be sure of your computer before you remove your current windows. Also the internet connection, or display of web page, has little to do with the type of windows you are using. Sometimes other internet culprits are the problem with web page access – spyware, viruses… Most of the time the site is merely overloaded. The internet provider could also be experiencing problems. I deserve that thumbs down, but I’m not so sure some of the other suggestions do. A clean new install will wipe out your hard drive, so back up is essential.

Before you wipe out your computer to start again I had the same problem. I called my internet service provider and found a problem with my modem set up and some registry keys that had to be changed. Took about 40 mins to repair and saved all my files.

You can use fdisk….shudder…or you can do it during the install. Make sure that your DVD or floppy is your Boot Disk before you start up with all the erasing. Good luck.
