How do I complete a COSHH assessment for work with chemicals?

A. The University has produced model template COSHH Risk Assessment / Safe Systems of Work forms (HS1 and HS2) which are designed to guide the assessor through the risk assessment process ensuring that all the areas of compliance are considered and that the significant finding of that assessment are then conveyed to the operative in the form of a Safe System of Work. HS1 is designed for tasks that are of a complex nature, or that may involve, or produce, relatively high hazard substances, e.g. activities as may be undertaken in chemical laboratories, research facilities and some workshops, or clean room areas. HS2 is a combined risk assessment and Safe Systems of Work form and is designed primarily for proprietary (purchased) substances. These model forms are available in the SAFENET section of this website. • For Further Information on this FAQ please refer to: http://www.safety.ed.ac.uk/safenet/risk_assess/COSHH_Notes.shtm.
