Most of today’s headlamps are made from plastic polycarbonate, which is lighter and more resistant to cracks than the old glass headlamps. The plastic has a tendency to get hazy, though, after years of exposure to sunlight and atmospheric chemicals. Some lenses can even develop a network of fine cracks, called craze, which can be tough to fix. It’s worth a try, though, before replacing a lens.
