Cartridge and Carriage ContactsOpen the HP printer cover. After the cartridge carriage stops moving, unplug the machine. Remove the ink cartridge, and set it on a clean paper towel with the nozzle plate up. Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water. Wipe away ink and debris buildup on the cartridge contacts. Also clean the contacts inside the carriage assembly in the printer. Use a new, dry cotton swab to thoroughly dry the cartridge and carriage contacts.
