Cleaning an oil painting done on canvas can be done, but be very careful to not damage the painting. first remove the painting from its frame and using a soft brush, sweep the dust from the canvas, next cover the nozzle of your vacuum with a soft cloth and very gently vacuum the painting, be very careful when doing this. For any dirt spots, pour some warm water in a glass dish and add just a drop or two of fragrant free dish washing liquid, dip a lint free cloth in the water and then squeeze it out really well, wrap the damp part of the cloth around your finger and gently dab at the spots, do not rub them or you will damage the painting. Put the painting back into the frame, and hang it back on the wall. It should now look nice and fresh and clean and undamaged. If the painting is extremely dirty, consider taking it to a professional to get it cleaned.
