If there is a blockage in the drain, put about 3/4 cup of baking soda down the drain and pour approximately 1/2 cup of vinegar on top. Have a plate or extra dish cloth handy to cover it. The vinegar and baking soda will create bubbles that will help dissolve the clog. Wait for a half hour or more. Put 1 quart of water on the stove and bring it to boiling. Pour the boiled water down the drain slowly. This should dissolve the clog. If it doesn’t, repeat the baking soda and vinegar treatment, followed by more hot water. This is an easy, inexpensive, safe and environmentally friendly way to keep clogs from forming in the first place, and can be used with any kind of plumbing. Never mix vinegar with bleach.
