You don’t really set the hardness level. Once we know the hardness, and size of unit we set a specific number of gallons that the unit will soften before needing regenerated. Knowing the family size, we sometimes factor in a reserve factor to carry through the day should the meter “o” out early in the morning. So having said that, I can’t help you with that because there are 3 different sizes of Medallist units and a whole lot of hardness levels which would determine what you want to do. Maybe you could call your local office and ask what the gallon settings should be for four people. To get to the gallons, push the “status” button repeatedly until “capy” which stands for capacity shows up. It will alternate between capy and a number. The number is how many gallons X 10 you want it set at. (for instance 80 will equate to 800 gallons). Use the + or – key to change it to what you want once you know what that number should be.
