How do I catch a garden snake?
Herpetologists do use “snake traps” of sorts, but they generally work only if you actually see the snake. (They also work with lizards, but on the same principle.) Get some paper towel tubes and cap them at one end. Array the capped tubes near a place where the snake would normally go when threatened. If you chase the snake toward its hiding place, it may dash for one of the tubes as an obvious shelter, but it might have a hard time turning around once inside. Like I said, this only works if you actually see the snake; it also won’t work with very small snakes or with very large ones; the former can easily turn around and escape, and the latter won’t fit at all.
