How do I care for the painted birdhouse and pedestal that Ive been given?
These products have been finished in a non-toxic, oil based paint. Because these bird homes are intended for use with wildlife, no pressure-treated woods or harmful chemicals have been applied. Homes with cedar shingles will naturally patina to a silvery gray due to sun exposure. Pedestals should be placed on a flat, dry surface, such as stone or cement. To best preserve the painted finish of the birdhouse, pedestal or feeder, select a polyurethane product that has been recommended for marine use. It should be UV rated so that the applied white finish will not yellow. Once left outside, you should expect that these products will weather and require refinishing.
