How do I care for newly sodded areas?
Keep sodded areas damp for at least 6 weeks. Do NOT let it puddle or run. Afternoons from noon to 6 p.m. are the CRUCIAL times for watering. This will prevent the sod from drying out. If your sod does not receive the proper amount of water it will DRY OUT AND BURN. You can start watering your sod as soon as it had been installed. You will need to fertilize sodded areas up to about 1 month after it has been installed. Then fertilize in the spring and fall. Use a balanced fertilizer with NO weed killer. We recommend Cenex 25-15-8-5 at the rate of 5lbs per 1000 sq ft. You can purchase that at any Cenex store or fertilizer plant. DO NOT APPLY WEED KILLER on the newly installed sod for the first year. When your lawn reaches around 3″ in height you may cut to a length of about 2″. Be sure the mower blades are sharp when cutting.
