How do I calculate the number of volunteer attorneys and pro bono matters for 2008?
We are looking for numbers that reflect the number of attorneys working on a pro bono matter during the year. This includes matters initiated prior to January 1, 2008; we are interested in the number of pro bono activities that lawyers engaged in during the year, not the number of new matters in 2008. Should I include pro bono coordinators, paralegals, summer associates, and law clerks when calculating pro bono hours? Yes, if a pro bono coordinator, paralegal, summer associate or law clerk contributed to a pro bono matter the hours may be included in the total for the year. The time a pro bono coordinator spends in the administration of pro bono matters within his or her office, however, does not count as pro bono service. Does community education count as pro bono?
