How do I calculate sick leave and pay entitlement for a part-time teacher?

A part-time teacher will have an entitlement to sick leave and pay which is pro-rata to that of a full-time teacher. If, for example, they work for one day a week, then they will have a maximum entitlement to 20 days at full pay plus 20 days at half pay. This sick pay will be payable during term time at the rate of one day per week and will continue through school closure periods on the same basis (periods outside term time do not count against the entitlement to sick leave). A teacher who works one day a week is not entitled to 100 days’ full sick pay because this would mean they would be on full pay for well over 2 years, followed by half pay for the same period. However they would still qualify for maximum sick pay entitlement after 5 years of employment, because the qualifying length of service does not depend on the number of days worked per week.
