Purchase Public LandVisit the Montana Trust Land for Sale website and click on the county where you want to purchase land. It will list all land up for bid in that area. All public land sales are conducted through public auctions in Montana. Submit a bid by filling out an Offer to Purchase and Bid Deposit Receipt form with the full name you wish to appear on the deed, the parcel’s identification numbers and the amount of your bid. Sign the form in the presence of a notary public. Include a certified or cashier’s check drawn on a Montana bank for 20 percent of your bid amount at least 20 days before the auction date. Nominate land you are currently leasing for sale by filling out and submitting a nomination form.
