You will build mass by gradually increasing the weight/resistance you use. You should use a weight that causes you to reach “failure” that is the point where you can no longer lift after 6 to 8 reps. Do three sets of each exercise increasing the weight used in each rep. It should be difficult but if you are shaking and exhausted you may be overdoing and risking injury. A workout will use a variety of exercises. Try not to work the same muscle group with the same intensity two days in a row. Pay attention to antagonistic muscle groups – for example bicep/tricep so that your workout is complete.
