How do I block a user in advance…?

You are going to have to receive at least one Private Message or Compliment before you can block a user. Since you are blocking them from communicating with you, they at least have to communicate with you once before you have the option of blocking them. You are correct the block user link is an option in the inbox (private messages), but it is also on the Compliment page. Please note if you block a user, you may still encounter there questions and answers. If you ask a question, they can still answer your questions. Also you may still encounter them on discussion boards. Sorry that there is not an option to block a user in advance, but if you think there should be you can always send Askville a suggestion. At the bottom of every page you will see the feedback link. We are in beta!
