How do I avoid Nestlé products in France?
I’ve been in France 13 years and have successfully avoided buying Nestlé products since I’ve lived here. My degrees are in International relations and Political Science and we discussed their unethical practices in class. It wasn’t just a matter of handing out package samples but dressing up their sales people as nurses and told to look specifically for mothers having trouble breastfeeding. Nestlé was aware that the local water source wasn’t safe but didn’t care. They wanted to sell formula, end of story. Yes, there are other companies which don’t always have ethical practices but Nestlé’s campaigns were particularly aggressive. They also promote too-early solids (none necessary before 6 months but they mark their food from 4 months on and I was given literature in the hospital claiming they “need” it). Also, powdered milk as a cheaper alternative to formula, packaged to look similar… This is what is going on here in Europe! I can also add other countries to your list.
