How do I avoid heavy traffic in the cities between Jacksonville, FL and St. Louis?

Hi we drive from STL to St. Augustine every year. Wow what a drive that is we can usually make it in about 15-16 hours depending on traffic. We try to hit Atlanta up either early in the morning or late at night/evening. For the most part traffic has never really been bad in Nashville; I don’t think we have ever sat in traffic. However Atlanta is a whole nother story. Try to time your trip to hit it was early in the morning or late night, be sure to take the Bypass around the city (just don’t forget to get off it or you will circle the city). The Bypass (I-295) mileage wise is a tad longer however it does save a lot of time. The speed limit is higher than in the city and you don’t have all the traffic coming and going from the city. STL is just a big old mess we have construction going on EVERYWHERE and on pretty much every highway. The worst times that you can come into STL is 6-8 in the morning and 4-6ish at night. With Highway 40 closed all the other highways are packed during rush h
