How do I apply the same inquiry technique to academic writing?
Our task, if we want to be able to write in most (if not all) academic situations, is to develop an attitude of inquiry. That is, we must learn what kinds of questions apply in which academic writing situations. We must be able to turn a casual assignment (like the casual invitation above) into appropriate inquiry questions so we may more efficiently and effectively fulfill the assignment. Fortunately, there are not a limitless variety of academic writing situations (though the possible answers and follow-up questions are endless).
