How do I apply for the Federal Direct PLUS Loan program?
If your parent wishes to borrow through the Federal Direct PLUS Loan program they should complete the Berklee Direct PLUS Loan Request Form (see Forms for Download). The borrower (a parent, step-parent, or grandparent) must pass a credit check performed by the federal servicer to receive this loan. To pass the credit check, the borrower cannot have an adverse credit history. This means that the borrower has not missed or been late with any payments in the last 90 days. Once Berklee has processed your application the credit check generally takes 5 to 7 business days to complete. The borrower is notified directly by the federal servicer of the loan approval or denial. Should the loan be denied, the parent applicant has the option of reapplying with an endorser (also known as a co-signer). Should the parent applicant choose not to re-apply there is potential for additional Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan for the student.
