How do I adapt mastery chemistery to an AP class?
Students watch the podcasts on their own time (but they all do the same podcast on the same night). And then in class students work together on problems. We are using Zumdahl’s 6th Edition and most of our questions come from there. We have thought of writing our own series of questions so that they more closely mirror the AP format, but have not had the chance to do that just yet. We call this method the Pre-Vodcasting Model. Where students watch the podcasts at home and then do the “homework” in class with us there to help them when they get stuck. It works wonderfully. We are uncertain if we are going to do AP Chem next year with the mastery model. We find that with this model this level of student works better when there are lots of them to work together.
