How do humans perceive motion?
• Humans have neurons to detect motion. • There is a feedback from our body that tells us that we are moving or somebody is moving. • The environment we see is rich in cues that give us information about movement. Apparent movement occurs when an object is stationary but we perceive it as moving. The following are the two forms of apparent motion: • Stroboscopic motion. It is the illusion of movement created when a rapid simulation of different parts of the retina occurs. • Movement after effects. This happens when we watch continuous movement and then look at another surface.
