How do Historians view John Cabot?

0

Historians consider Cabot an early explorer for England. Well of course when Cabot sailed he knew exactly where he was going because the Bristol fishermen had been working the waters off what became Newfoundland for at least 20 years. It was kept a secret to keep Europeans from plundering their resources (fish). So the biggest change was that it triggered English colonization of the new world and everything since. Columbus never set foot on N.A., in fact he was lost. So he didn’t ‘discover’ anything. In fact he thought he was in India. lol Well the reaction was that the French, Dutch and Norwegians came running to get a piece of the action. History has never given Cabot the credit he deserves, then or now. Unfortunately, very few Americans recognize Cabot as ‘discoverer of America’. As far as Cabot personally, I really don’t know that much about him.
