How do grille guards affect deployment of air bags?
There is no conclusive or comprehensive data at this time regarding air bag deployment and grille guards, and opinions vary to say the least. Most of our grille guards are considered medium-strength grille guards (excluding winch-specific models), suitable for pushing a vehicle, but one that will crush in a high-speed accident. Forward deceleration of approximately 40-50 G’s triggers sensors that deploy modern air bag systems. Since the sensors work on deceleration and are normally located under the hood, adding reinforced bumpers or grille guards should not interfere with air bag systems. We suggest you check your vehicle’s manual for sensor location and type to make sure that user-added equipment does not interfere with your sensors.
