How do goals of prevention system planning differ from the goals of community substance abuse prevention planning?
While the same logic model is used for prevention systems planning and for community substance abuse prevention planning, the goals, objectives, outcomes and strategies are very different. The first focuses on organizational development, and the second focuses on substance abuse reduction. Prevention system goals are based on the assessment and analysis of your local prevention system. System goals address those priority areas of development in the areas of leadership, capacity and processes that your coalition determined by calculating and prioritizing GAP scores. (See Appendix B of the RFA for prevention system assessment and analysis tools). Goals for your community substance abuse prevention plan will relate to those broad, long-term behavior changes in substance use and abuse that you are trying to achieve in your community.
